BATAVIA — The foundations of a 55-apartment unit residential building are complete at the $22.4 million Ellicott Station project site with the commercial and residential development’s finish expected in a little over a year.
A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday at 56 Ellicott St.
“Masonry elevator and stair shafts are going up. Steel due to arrive in June, said Sam Savarino, president and CEO of Savarino Companies, LLC of Buffalo, developer for the project.
The residential portion of Ellicott Station will be about 56,000 square feet and apartments will be on four of the five floors, with the first floor for parking, Savarino said. There will be a commercial building of about 17,000 square feet at Ellicott and Jackson streets, he said. Another building will include a brewery.
Ellicott Station was awarded about $3.6 million in incentives from the Genesee County Economic Development Center (GCEDC) and $425,000 in DRI funding. The state Office of Homes and Community Renewal (HCR) awarded funding of $5,691,573.55 for the housing portion of the project. In October, the City Council accepted a $500,000 Empire State Development Restore New York grant for the project.
The site is a Brownfield Opportunity Area-designated site, with cleanup of contamination having gone on there.
“Abatement and remediation are almost 100% complete,” Savarino said.
Completion of the $22.4 million project is scheduled for mid 2023, Savarino said.
