Bed Bath and Beyond has closed its store in the Union Consumer Square in Cheektowaga, part of a downsizing effort by the home goods retailer that will shut 40 stores across the country during the first half of this year.
The retailer still has four stores in the Buffalo Niagara region – in Niagara Falls, Amherst, Hamburg and Buffalo.
Bed Bath and Beyond officials said the stores that it is closing no longer meet its standards. Bed Bath & Beyond’s parent company also operates buybuy Baby, Harmon Face Values and World Market stores, but none of those stores are included in the latest round of closings.
Bed Bath and Beyond executives said last month that the retailer plans to close another 20 stores across all of its retail concepts by the end of this year, but it has not identified those locations.
