Bed Bath and Beyond has announced more store closings as part of plans to axe 150 underperforming locations, leaving only one location still operating in Central New York.

The retailer updated its store closings list Tuesday to include 62 more stores nationwide, in addition to 56 announced in September. A total of eight Bed Bath & Beyond stores are now closed or closing in New York state, including four Upstate NY shops in Ithaca, Kingston, New Hartford, and Plattsburgh.

Here are the Bed Bath & Beyond stores closing in New York (newly announced locations in bold):

  • 470 Route 211 East, Suite 3, Middletown
  • 500 East Sandford Blvd., Mt. Vernon
  • 4805 Commercial Drive, New Hartford
  • 1187 Ulster Avenue, Kingston
  • 73 Centre Drive, Suite 100, Plattsburgh
  • 251 Airport Plaza Blvd., Farmingdale
  • 131 Fairgrounds Memorial Parkway, Suite 100, Ithaca
  • 2795 Richmond Avenue, Staten Island

More closures are expected to be announced in the coming months.

Bed Bath & Beyond’s website still lists Upstate New York locations in Albany, Buffalo, DeWitt, Hamburg, Henrietta, Newburgh, Poughkeepsie, Saratoga Springs, Victor, and Williamsville. The DeWitt store near Syracuse will be the only location left in Central New York after shutting down stores in Camillus and Clay in 2020.

The home goods retailer said last year that it would close about 150 of its namesake stores and lay off about 20% of its workers in a bid to turn around its struggling business. The company also said it would keep its buybuy Baby chain, but announced Tuesday that six buybuy Baby locations and two Harmon stores will close.

USA Today reports Bed Bath & Beyond has raised “substantial doubt” about its future, but said it was on track to cut $500 million in costs in its third-quarter fiscal report, which showed a net sales decline of 33% to $1.26 billion over the prior year on $393 million in losses. The company said last week it will look at options like refinancing its debt or restructuring its business in bankruptcy court.

In May 2022, the company had nearly 1,000 stores, including 769 Bed Bath & Beyond stores at the time, and more than 30,000 employees. Bed Bath & Beyond said in August that sales at stores open for at least one year plunged 26% over that quarter.
