Onondaga County real estate sees high demand but low supply

According to the National Association of Realtors, home sales from March 2020 to April 2020 fell 17.8%.

Onondaga County Real Estate Broker Martin Carpenter said that demand is not the problem.

“Since March, the reality is that sellers are still waiting to sell, there is less because they are still waiting to see what is going to happen, but the buyers have been there,” Carpenter said.

According to Carpenter, new listings in Onondaga County fell 61% in April compared to April of 2019. He says that some buyer’s needs have changed since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

“Maybe I need to make sure I have a spot where I can set up and have a place away from the kids or the dog or whomever it might be and just have a spot to make a phone call and work privately,” Carpenter said.

Carpenter says the pandemic has forced him to embrace technology.

“We all live crazy lives, so taking advantage of today’s technology tools and taking advantage of those are tools and having more virtual open houses,” Carpenter said.

According to the National Association of Realtors, in 2019, 5.34 million homes were sold.
